Ari Taylor for Malden Ward 5 City Council

The right leader
for our neighborhood

As a lifelong resident of Ward 5, Ari has been a dedicated community volunteer in Malden for more than 30 years.

Public service is in Ari’s blood

Ari grew up on Porter Street in a family that encouraged hard work and public service. Ari’s parents, Dianne (Peluso) and Joe Schena, taught her the importance of giving back to the community. Her father served as Ward 5 Chair of the Malden Democratic City Committee and her mother worked with Bread of Life.

Ari steps up to address community needs

At just 15 years old, Ari and several other students at Nazareth High successfully lobbied for the school to revive its art department.

Ari was the driving force in creating Malden’s first online community event calendar. And just this year, Ari led the effort to paint several crosswalks in key Malden intersections with rainbow colors for LGBTQ pride; she secured the grant funding for the project, worked closely with City officials to plan the project, and recruited volunteers to do the painting.

Ari is honored to serve in leadership roles on several Malden non-profit boards where she’s worked to make Malden a more vibrant and welcoming place to live.

Home and family are at the center of Ari’s dedication to Malden

When Ari’s family home on Porter Street burned down around 10 years ago, the community rallied and helped them get back on their feet. Her family’s experience of housing insecurity and her gratitude for community support guides Ari’s commitment to public service and guides her professionally as well.

As a professional realtor, Ari specializes in helping first-time buyers and working families realize their dreams of homeownership. Her public service work is focused on advocating for services to help all Malden residents thrive.

Ari and her husband Jeff are raising their three daughters Emily, Charlotte, and Phoebe here in Ward 5, where they can be close to Ari’s mother. They also have a dog, Walter, and two cats (Elvira and Frankenstein).

Ari has extensive business and managerial experience

Ari is currently the General Manager for a small business serving several large Boston hotel chains. In this role, Ari is responsible for payroll and managing a growing staff of close to two dozen.

At the same time, Ari manages her own real estate business, as she has for over 8 years. She guides her clients through the challenges of purchasing a home. She specializes in helping first time and low-income buyers.

Ari is an active member of the Massachusetts Association of Realtors. She is a member of their Political Action Committee, where she works with her professional colleagues to advocate for improvements in fair housing regulations statewide.

If elected to the City Council, Ari’s decades of management experience in the private sector, coupled with her non-profit and advocacy experience, will help her serve the residents of Ward 5 effectively.

Ari has proven herself to be a dependable advocate Ward 5 residents will be able to rely on

If elected, Ari will be an accessible, accountable, and collaborative City Councillor. She will ensure that residents’ voices are heard and that Ward 5 gets the resources it needs. Ari will strengthen our sense of community by hosting neighborhood social events, ward meetings and office hours, and providing a free Ward 5 newsletter.

On the Issues

Ari is running for Ward 5 City Council to give residents a voice and to tackle the issues that matter for all of us.

Early on in this campaign, Ari did a listening tour of the entire ward to hear directly from residents about what they want to see in their next Ward 5 City Councillor, and to hear about the issues and concerns that are on their minds.

A Record of Leadership & Service for Malden

Ari has proven that she can work across political parties and neighborhood lines to successfully complete ambitious projects. Through her leadership and service to the community over the years, she’s built strong working relationships with Malden community leaders and elected officials. Her extensive skills and experience will enable her to be an effective member of the City Council on behalf of Ward 5 residents.
